When I was interviewing well-known Canadian chef Lynn Crawford for a podcast, we chatted about our long friendship, her TV career, our joint project that raised $40,000 for a new kitchen at Toronto homeless shelter for women – and what we like to cook at home.
I can’t think of a dish more soothing or suitable for frigid winter days than Spaghetti Bolognese. So when I recently invited friends over for a casual Saturday night supper, I set aside an afternoon three days ahead when I was at home writing to simmer this wonderfully satisfying sauce with ground meat and tomatoes as its base, giving it time to simmer for several hours and then mellow before the dinner party.
You know those magical moments in cooking – when you put something together, almost haphazardly, and it turns out to be sublime.
That happened to me recently when a friend came over to cook dinner at my house using the contents of my fridge as our guide – possibly my favourite way to spend time.
